QUAD® 815
Product Description
QUAD® 815 is a chemical admixture specifically designed and formulated to meet the needs of the concrete producer. Designed to selectively react with clay contaminants in both coarse and fine aggregates, this highly engineered product can eliminate the negative effect of clays in concrete through irreversible chemical reaction. QUAD 815 does not contain TEA and chlorides.
QUAD 815 complies with AS1478 as a Type SN.
Benefits
QUAD technology is based on chemically distinguishing between beneficial fines and clay contamination mitigating the negative impact of the latter. This allows concrete producers to:
- Use clay bearing aggregates (natural and crushed) without compromising on concrete performance
- Significantly increase manufactured sand amount in mix design
- Increase utilization of lower quality / clay contaminated aggregates
- Significantly improve concrete performance through lowering water demand and concrete admixtures demand by blocking clay particles
Properties
- Physical state: Liquid
- Colour: amber
- Specific Gravity: 1.10 ± 0.10
- pH: 7 – 11
- Storage temperature: up to 40°C
- Shelf life: 12 months
Addition Rates
For most clays, addition of 0.5 – 4L/metric ton of clay affected aggregate will effectively eliminate the negative effects of clay contamination.
These levels can vary due to the type of clay (mineralogy) and the level of contamination.
How to Use
QUAD 815 is designed to be used as received. Further dilution is not recommended unless exceptional circumstances exist at a given site.
Please contact your local GCP representative.
Compatibility
Mitigation of clays with QUAD 815 allows water reducers, mid-range water reducers and high range water reducers to maximize their water reducing properties to produce higher strength shotcrete.
QUAD 815 can be used in conjunction with WRDA®, MIRA®, ADVA® ranges of admixtures, retarding and accelerating admixtures, rheology modifiers and rheology control admixtures.
QUAD 815 is compatible with all air-entraining concrete admixtures, however the quantity of air entraining agent when added with QUAD 815 may need to be altered to achieve required air entrainment.
Each admixture should be added separately to the mix. Initial lab and field trials are recommended to establish exact dose rates.
QUAD 815 should not be used with naphthalene based admixtures.
Dosing Equipment
A complete line of accurate, automatic dispensing equipment is available. Please contact your local GCP representative for further information regarding the dispensing equipment for this product.
Packaging
QUAD 815 is available in 1,100kg Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC) or in bulk tanker trucks. Please contact your local GCP representative if other packaging options are required.
Storage
QUAD 815 should be stored in a shaded area not exposed to direct sunlight. Should area’s storage be exposed to freezing temperatures, provisions should be made for insulating and heating in order to prevent freezing, excess viscosity and to aid pumpability.
Health & Safety
Read and understand the product label and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) if handling the product directly. All users should acquaint themselves with this information prior to working with the product and follow the precautionary statements. SDSs can be obtained by contacting your local GCP representative or office.
Technical Services
Field Engineers from GCP Applied Technologies are available to assist in laboratory and plant evaluations of QUAD 815. Please contact your local GCP representative for further assistance.
