QUANTEC® PL-442

Plasticiser for wet cast masonry units

Product Description

QUANTEC® PL-442 is a specifically formulated admixture for use in the manufacture of high quality concrete blocks, pavers, and other concrete units produced in wet cast masonry operations. QUANTEC PL-442 provides improved mix consistency, improved placement and superior finish of the concrete masonry unit (CMU). It is a light coloured, ready-to-use admixture that can be accurately and rapidly dispensed into the mix.

Addition Rates

QUANTEC PL-442 is supplied ready-to-use to allow for easy handling and controlled dispensing into the mix. Dose rate range is 200 to 400mL / 100kg of total cementitious material, including flyash and other pozzolans. Generally, a dose level of 300mL / 100kg cementitious is used in most applications. Due to cement, aggregate type and content, and type of mixing equipment, dose rates can vary. Please refer to local GCP technical services for detailed requirements.

Applications

QUANTEC PL-442 is intended primarily for use in all wet cast manufactured concrete operations to improve production efficiency while increasing appearance and strength of manufactured concrete units. QUANTEC PL-442 is used to produce low to moderately high slump mixes with reduced water in the mix and improved mix efficiency, allowing complete hydration of the cement.

Characteristics for wet cast concrete unit production require mixes to be easily placed into moulds and often increased water is added to aid in this placement. The incremental water can potentially reduce strength and quality of the finished product. The use of QUANTEC PL–442 will compensate for need to increase water and improve dispersion of the cement particles throughout the mix to ensure high workability with increased early and late age strength profiles, providing an overall better produced concrete masonry unit.

Strength of concrete units can be improved by up to 20% at the same cement content. With the increased workability, mixes containing QUANTEC PL-442 have better mix compaction with less potential for cracking, sharper edges, resulting in fewer rejected units. The finish of the concrete unit will be smoother with denser surface and improved finished texture.
