OPTEC® EC-625

Colour-enhancing and densifying admixtures

Product Description

OPTEC® EC-625 admixture is a colour-enhancing and densifying concrete additive. It is formulated as a ready-to-use admixture to enhance the quality and appearance of low slump concrete products.

OPTEC® EC-625 is formulated specifically for use in colour slurry coats applied to the exposed surfaces of machined concrete products. It improves colour, reduces efflorescence, increases durability and toughness, and imparts water repellency to the concrete surface.

Product Advantages

  • Improves colour consistency
  • Reduces efflorescence
  • Improves surface durability
  • Improves surface toughness
  • Improves colour retention
  • Reduces colour blotching
  • Reduces need for acrylic sealer coats
  • Improves water repellency

Product Function

OPTEC® EC-625 interacts and uniformly disperses the inorganic oxide pigments in the mixture. OPTEC® EC-625 further reacts with the hydrating cement to produce a hard, less permeable surface and helps inhibit the formation of unsightly calcium carbonate on the surface of the concrete units.

In concrete roof tile applications, OPTEC® EC-625 may allow a reduction or elimination of the acrylic coat used to protect the surface of the hardened colour coat. If an acrylic coat is used, the OPTEC® EC-625 will protect the colour coat from blotching and fading after the acrylic coat has degraded from exposure to the elements.

OPTEC® EC-625 is compatible with most concrete admixtures. When multiple admixtures are used. However, they must be added separately to the concrete mixture.

Packaging & Storage

OPTEC® EC-625 is available in 205L drums and 1,000L totes. OPTEC® EC-625 contains no flammable ingredients. It will begin to freeze at approximately 0ºC, but can be used after thawing and thorough agitation. Do not use pressurised air for agitation.

Applications

OPTEC® EC-625 is designed for use in plants producing concrete roof tiles, but may also be effectively used in the manufacture of concrete brick and block.

Mixing Procedure

Maximum product efficiency is achieved by adding OPTEC® EC-625 to the mixer with the final water, after the cement has been wetted. As with all admixtures, do not add OPTEC® EC-625 to dry cement. Allow at least 90-120 seconds total mix time after the admixture has been added, depending on the efficiency of the mixing equipment that is being utilised.

Addition Rates

In roof tile slurry coat applications, the typical addition rates of OPTEC® EC-625 will normally range from 2,000 to 3,000mL / 100kg of cementitious materials including fly ash and other pozzolans.

When used as a concrete admixture, the addition rates typically range from 1,000 to 1,500mL / 100kg of cementitious materials.

In all cases the addition rate is dependent upon the specific set of materials used and the desired properties.

Health & Safety

All precautions defined on the Material Safety Data Sheet for OPTEC® EC-625 must be followed.
